Every day, nearly 1000 Americans suffer sudden cardiac arrest. While CPR is the proper response for a person suffering from "cardiac standstill," Some abnormal rhythms called "ventricular fibrillation," can also cause the heart suddenly to stop pumping blood. The problem is that, to the normal observer, these conditions look the same. AEDs, however, can determine which condition is occurring and advise the rescuer how to proceed with voice and visual instructions.

If these conditions are not treated within minutes, the victim will die. Every minute counts. Their best chance for survival is if you have access to an automated external defibrillator (AED) and know how to use it.

The AED course teaches you proper use of CPR with an AED, and provides information on obtaining this cost-effective and life-saving piece of equipment.

AEDs are saving lives all over the country. They are far more successful than CPR alone, with survival rates up to 70%.

If you work in a daycare, a health club, an office, a school, a store, a mall, or a restaurant, you should have a defibrillator, and you should know how to use it. You have a fire extinguisher and smoke alarms. You have a telephone to call the police. You have a first-aid kit. You should have a defibrillator.

You owe it to your employees, your customers, and yourself to find out more.
